You may have heard this story before. You know, the one about that kid from Brooklyn who moved to Orlando and made it big? Hmm… you haven’t? Are you sure? Wow, then sit up and we’ll fill you in!
Joseph Anthony Fatone, Jr. was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 28th, 1977 and moved to Orlando, Florida with his family at the age of thirteen. In 1994 he graduated from Dr. Phillips High School, which is located right across the street from Universal Studios Florida, where he soon began working right along with his brother Steve and sister Janine.
Soon enough he was asked by friends Chris Kirkpatrick and JC Chasez to join them in a vocal group they were assembling along with another friend of JC’s, Justin Timberlake. Add on Lance Bass and there began the “dude” group that started it all… NSync. Insert a few years in Germany that gave us the lovely home video “The Reel NSync” (filmed by our own Joey), fan favorite classics “I Want You Back” and “Tearin Up My Heart”, and one lawsuit against a greedy bastard named Lou and you’ve got yourself the chaotic beginning to a phenomenon waiting to happen.
By the year 2000, NSync brought “pop” music to a new level with hits such as “Bye Bye Bye” and “Its Gonna Be Me”, which gave them the staying power and ability to work with such artist as Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, Aerosmith, Stevie Wonder, Nelly, Tim McGraw and many more. With the release of NSync’s 2001 album Celebrity, they proved once again that they were no mere “boy band” with a sale of 1.8 million its first week.
But that wasn’t all that Joey had to be proud of, since he and girlfriend Kelly Baldwin became parents to their baby girl Brianna that 21st of March. Soon the world was introduced to the actor Joey Fatone, rather than the singer, with the release of On The Line with fellow NSync’er Lance Bass. It wasn’t a total hit… but no biggie since his other 2000/2001 gig, My Big Fat Greek Wedding hit it big in the box office instead, ranking it the biggest box office selling independent film so far. But that wasn’t enough for Joey… So after conquering the big screen, what next? How about Broadway!
In 2002 after the Celebrity Tour ended… Joey began playing the character “Mark” in the Broadway musical “Rent” from August 5 to December 22, 2002. Which, if anything, once again proved the talent he was capable of. Joey then had some down time to spend with his family and daughter before taking on the role of hosting NBC’s reality musical show “Fame” along side famous singer/dancer Debbie Allen.
The show lasted through much of spring and summer 2003… ending just in time for him to step back into acting. Joey can been seen in an array of movies, including a remake of “Red Riding Hood” and in “The Cooler” co-starring William H. Macy and Alec Baldwin. He returned to Broadway in later 2003 to portray “Seymour Krelbourn” in the musical “Little Shop Of Horrors” for six months. Letting his inner child out to play, he has also lent his voice to “Robot Chicken”, “Kim Possible”, and “Shorty McShorts’ Shorts”.
In 2007, Joey slipped on his dancing shoes and joined the 4th season of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars”, twirling all the way to the finale and winning second place. 2008 led Joey to host three different shows, “The Singing Bee”, “Celebrity Circus”, and “Singing Office” with fellow DWTS contestant and former Spice Girl, Melanie Brown.
What will the future hold for Joey? Let’s cross our fingers for more Broadway! *wink wink*
